Reflexology is a protocol of manual techniques, such as thumb and finger-walking, hook and backup and rotating-on-a-point, applied to specific reflex areas predominantly on the feet and hands. These techniques stimulate the complex neural pathways linking body systems, supporting the body’s efforts to function optimally. The effectiveness of reflexology is recognized worldwide by various national health institutions and the public at large as a distinct complementary practice within the holistic health field. It is believed that the feet, hands, and outer ears reflect the entire body’s systems and stimulating the nerve endings that carry impulses to every part of the body through touch providing the body an opportunity to acquire balance and awaken the body’s natural healing response. Reflexology is also a relaxation tool that complements a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle. Reflexology does not diagnose or treat specific medical conditions and is not a replacement for proper medical care.
People of all ages can benefit from reflexology treatments, infants to the elderly. We all suffer from stress at one time or another, and aches and pains are a part of daily life. Reflexology has a long history of promoting relaxation and healing.
Although reflexology is not used to diagnose or cure health disorders, millions of people around the world use it to complement other treatments when addressing conditions like anxiety, asthma, cancer treatment, cardiovascular issues, diabetes, headaches, kidney function, PMS, and sinusitis. Reflexology has been utilized by cultures throughout the world since before the times of the Egyptians. The practice is growing increasingly popular across Europe and Asia as both a complement to other treatments and as a preventive measure. One example is Denmark, where various municipalities and companies have employed reflexologists since the early ’90s.
